Edward Leedskalnin, a Latvian immigrant, built the castle single-handedly over a 20 year period in the early 20th century. In defiance of gravity, he was able to move coral blocks weighing many tons into place with no apparent help. He said he knew the secret of how the Pyramids were built.

Established in 1944,
the Fruit & Spice Park is a tropical paradise nestled in the heart of the
Redland District, just 35 miles south of Miami. Surrounded by thousands of acres
of tropical agriculture, the Park is a showcase for South Florida's agricultural
community. More than 500 varieties of exotic fruits, herbs, spices and nuts
from throughout the world are found in this lush 35-acre park. Visit the herb
and vegetable garden, stroll through a shady banana grove or become more knowledgeable
about poisonous plants. Spend an hour or an entire day at the Fruit & Spice
Park. . . tastefully exotic! It's the only public garden of its kind in the
United States. Picnic facilities are also available.
Guided tours are conducted daily at 11 AM, 1:15 and 2:30 PM and by special arrangement on weekdays for schools and groups. The Park also has Festivals, Classes and Workshops throughout the year.
Park admission: $3.50
per adult and $1. per child under 12 (as of 6/03).
