I love the quote above because it is exactly what raw food enthusiasts are doing all over the world. Building a new working model that makes the existing model of poor eating and lifestyle choices obsolete. Awesome!!

ITEM #1: RAW FOOD TEST SUBJECTS NEEDED! If you are over the age of 50 and have been on raw foods for three years, you can participate and contribute valuable information to a unique study.

This ground-breaking research study, taking place at the Department of Internal Medicine at Washington University Medical School in St. Louis, MO. Is headed by Dr. Luigi Fontana, who is investigating the factors responsible for healthy and successful aging. (By healthy and successful aging, they mean survival to a ripe old age in good health, with good mental and physical function. I don’t think they mean that 50 is a ripe old age, but that at 50 or over you can be tested for health markers which can then be extrapolated to indicate healthy outcomes at a ripe old age).

The study will determine the effects of a raw food diet versus vegan diet versus lacto-ovo vegetarian diet versus western diet (typical American diet) on many health outcomes and on successful aging.
If the study is able to recruit enough people on a raw food diet, vegan and lacto-ovo vegetarian diet they can have extensive and accurate data about the benefits of these 3 types of diets on many health outcomes and risk factors for chronic diseases. They could also for the first time compare and have scientific data about the relative advantages of a raw food diet versus a vegan diet or lacto-ovo vegetarian diet versus American diet.

All of the volunteers for this study will receive an extensive free medical evaluation (worth $2000). These tests are non invasive and will be described to the participants in detail during an orientation session to help them decide whether or not they wish to participate. These tests will provide them with extensive information regarding their health status, disease risk, heart function, body composition, hormone levels, blood lipids, and bone density/osteoporosis.

By taking part in this study a double benefit would be obtained: a personal one (an extensive free medical evaluation) and a social one (helping the scientific community and therefore the society to better characterize the health impacts of different kinds of diets).

Unfortunately the budget does not allow for transportation to St. Louis, MO, but they will put you up at a hotel for one night and pay for food.

NEXT ITEM: Dr. Rebecca Carley, MD, is a pioneering doctor who has successfully developed and used alternative healing protocols, such as homeopathic remedies, diet, bovine colostrum and other supplements to reverse some of the adverse effects of childhood vaccinations. She has been extremely vocal in warning people against the dangers of vaccinations, using her Public Access TV show on Long Island to reach out. Since there have been no complaints, of any patient harmed, brought against her, and no irregularities with her practice, it would seem that Dr. Carley is being investigated by the New York State Office of Professional Medical Conduct (OPMC) simply because her views do not conform to the standard medical protocols. Dr. Carley’s right however, to use alternative forms of treatment are fully protected under the Alternative Medical Practices Act.

The OPMC maintains, based on statements Dr. Carley made on her TV show, which were reviewed by a psychiatrist, that she is psychologically unbalanced and they want to rescind her medical license.

What statements did she make? Well, it seems the good doctor is informing people about the dangers of vaccinations and about what the vaccinations contain, such as genetic material, aborted fetal matter, mercury, aluminum, etc. She is providing information, for those that want to know the facts, about what is being injected into children and what the possible consequences to some children are. Autism, which is rampantly on the increase is one of those possible outcomes. Shaken Baby Syndrome and Sudden Infant Death are others.

Dr. Carley has been representing herself in a series of grueling hearings held throughout the summer and now extending into the fall in NYC. She is representing herself only because, as you can imagine, it is very expensive to get legal counsel although she would like to have it. Right now she is in desperate need of funds to secure transcripts of all the hearings but at $7. per page, it adds up to thousands of dollars. (By law they’re only supposed to charge $4.50 per page but the OPMC says it does not have to abide by that law because it is not a state agency. However, it is under the aegis of the state so that sounds funny to me).

Tim Bolen, an investigator from California, who has helped many alternative doctors, including Hulda Clark, could take on the case and mount a counter-attack against the OPMC but he needs a $5,000 retainer to get the ball rolling. Dr. Carley could use a fund raiser if anyone wants to take on the job. She does not directly ask for money but will accept contributions if others ask on her behalf.

A bit of good news concerning the progress of the hearings is that the OPMC in a tactical move which could go against them introduced the fact that Dr. Carley is opposed to vaccinations as part of the testimony. This now opens the door for Dr. Carley to appeal under the Alternative Medical Practices Act that she is being discriminated against because of her alternative views concerning vaccination.

The importance of this case is not limited to those living in New York. Doctors all over the country are being targeted as "disruptive physicians." This generally means that they do not agree with many of the standard treatments and in behalf of their patients have forged ahead with progressive alternative forms of treatment.

In November, the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) is having a conference in Las Vegas specifically to discuss ways to deal with "disruptive physicians". In a previous strategy conference held in 1996, the FSMB advised state boards when going after alternative medical doctors to make the process costly – drag it out – force them to hire lawyers – make it complicated – lots of paperwork - so that it would be almost impossible during their hearings for most doctors to continue with their medical practices.

NEXT ITEM: Dennis Kucinich, representative from Ohio, has introduced into the current Congress some important bills relating to the genetic engineering of foods. These bills address some of the many issues that GE food forces upon us. One of the most important of the bills for consumers deals with the right to know issue. What is in our food or how is it produced? We have the right to know.

H.R. 4814 The Genetically Engineered Food Right to Know Act of 2002, if passed, will require:

1) Food companies to label all foods that contain or are produced with genetically engineered materials.
2) Requires the FDA to periodically test products to ensure compliance (a threshold of 1% is established for accidental contamination).
3) Voluntary, non-GE food labels are authorized
4) A legal framework is established to ensure the accuracy of labeling without creating significant economic hardship on the food production system.

H.R. 4812 The Genetically Engineered Crop and Animal Farmer Protection Act of 2002

This bill is also extremely important for protecting farmers, organic farmers and the environment.
It provides:

1) Farmers may save seeds and seek compensation from biotech companies for failed genetically engineered crops.
2) Biotech companies may not shift liability to farmers, nor require access to farmers property, nor mandate arbitration, nor mandate court of jurisdiction, nor require damages beyond actual fees, or any other unfair condition.
3) Farmers must be informed of the risks of using genetically engineered crops.
4) Biotech companies may not charge more to American farmers, for use of this technology, than they charge farmers in other nations.
5) Seed companies must ensure seeds labeled GE are accurate and provide clear instructions to reduce cross pollination, which contaminates other fields.
6) The EPA is required to evaluate the concern of Bt resistant pests and take actions necessary to prevent resistance to Bt, an important organic pesticide.
7) The bill prohibits genetic engineering designed to produce sterile seeds. {These are the infamous GE seeds which are engineered to commit suicide after one crop is produced. The US government in partnership with the Delta Pine Co. holds one of the patents on this unconscionable technology. These plants through their pollen have the potential to pass on their sterility trait to wild relatives, thus altering the natural order forever.}
8) The bill prohibits loan discrimination based on the choice of seeds an agricultural producer uses.

H.R. 4813 The Genetically Engineered Food Safety Act of 2002

This bill is crucial to the protection of human and animal health.

1) Requires all genetically engineered foods to follow FDAs current food additive process to ensure they are safe for human consumption.
2) Requires that unique concerns of genetically engineered foods are explicitly examined in the review process, a phase out of antibiotic resistance markers and a prohibition on known allergens.
3) Continues FDA discretion in the food additive process in applying the safety factors that are generally recognized as appropriate.
4) Requires the FDA to conduct a public comment period of at least 30 days once the completed safety application is available to the public.
5) The FDA is authorized to contract out for independent testing of a genetically engineered food and to seek input on the food safety process from the National Academy’s Institute of Medicine.

Two additional bills provide other protections.

H.R. 4816 The Genetically Engineered Organism Liability Act of 2002 provides placing all liability from negative impacts of genetically engineered organisms squarely upon the biotechnology companies that created the GE organism. Farmers are granted indemnification to protect them from the liabilities of biotech companies, and there can be no transfer of liability away from the biotechnology companies that created the GE organisms.

H.R. 4815 Real Solutions to World Hunger Act of 2002

The demand for mandatory labeling, safety testing and farmer protections do not constitute obstacles to the cessation of world hunger. Technologies, like genetically engineered food, may have a limited role, but economics remain the significant barrier to a consistent food supply and the development of expensive GE foods may only exacerbate this trend. Most genetically engineered food products and almost all research funding for the development of GE food target the developed nation's agriculture and consumers. Developing countries cannot afford this technology and therefore are vastly ignored. {Actually good in my view to be ignored but that will not last for long as the so-called developed countries pass laws and it becomes more difficult for GE companies to push through their agenda there.)

Agro-ecological interventions have had significantly more success in helping developing nations feed themselves with higher yields and improved environmental practices, all within reasonable costs.

This bill offers several new initiatives and protections to help developing nations resolve their hunger concerns.

Congress has been woefully neglectful in passing any laws or regulations concerning GE foods, preferring to ignore the issue altogether. In twenty years NOT ONE LAW has been passed to regulate this new and untested technology (under the guise of the patently false "substantial equivalence" mantra). Instead, they are trying to cover GE foods under inadequate laws that were passed to regulate food additives, pesticides, chemicals and other things, before GE foods even came into being. By not addressing the issue squarely, we get ridiculous results. . . like now there is a fish that is classified as a pesticide and plants also that are regulated as pesticides because pesticides are expressed in every cell of those plants.
