Amy Rachelle
Amy
Rachelle was born and raised in the rural southern states. She grew up in
the backwoods of Arkansas with her gypsy, pioneer mother picking wild mushrooms,
watercress from the creek, and "polk salad" from open fields. Waking
up at dawn to her mother practicing yoga, Amy was introduced to massage and
holistic living from an early age. Amy became known as "magic fingers"
by her much older siblings and was always drawn to spirituality.
Amy attended the University of Georgia in Athens and Georgia State in Atlanta.
In 1987, Amy moved to New York City, on her own with $100 and a pocket full
of dreams.
In 1990 Amy left NYC due to city exhaustion. With her partner, she bought
a 1968 hand-made Piver trimaran in the Florida Keys; they taught themselves
how to sail, set course on a major ocean crossing to Cancun and headed south
along the coast of Mexico to Tulum. Schools of dolphins travelled with them
daily and shooting stars landed in the cockpit at sunrise. They lived on the
beach in Tulum for 6 months, took people sailing for a meager living, and
Amy was introduced to healing.
Amy rediscovered her connection to nature living on a boat and her healing
path consciously began. After selling the boat, Amy lived in Guatemala. She
became aware of her gift for vision and massage when she took over a pregnat
womans practice in Panajachel. She has been developing her intuitive abilities
and massage skills since.
After 2 years of no running water, electricity, or indoor plumbing, Amy returned
to North America to record. She toured clubs and theaters across the U.S.
and Canada for 3 years.
In 1998 Amy discovered walking on people with her sister. They both liked
it so much that Amy developed a technique for using half to full weight to
walk on people for intuitive deep tissue massage. In 1999 Amy designed "the
contraption," a metal frame similar to monkey bars that fits over Amy's
massage table. It allows for balancing and hanging upside down. The contraption
was also designed for Amy's upcoming show Panacea: A Healing Ritual Performance.
After a 10 year hiatus, Amy returned to live in NYC in 2000. She's located
on Manhattan's lower east side. Amy is currently recording her upcoming solo
debut CD, seeing clients, practicing yoga, producing live food events and
teaching uncooking classes. She is also studying piano. Panacea is scheduled
for production in the fall of 2003.
