Audrey is the “chef” and creator of Audrey's Pleasure Foods, a company
based in NYC that sells cookies and other dehydrated treats to health food
stores, as well as directly to consumers, by mail order. Her recipes are flavorful
and reflect her Jamaican heritage and upbringing. A master of spices, and
with a profound knowledge of raw foods, she creates recipes that appeal to
the most discerning palate.
Michael Baumgardt
Michael Baumgardt is a very well-known computer book author on Desktop Publishing
and Web Design. His books have been printed and published in many languages.
Michael handles the business and marketing for Audrey's Pleasure Foods.
About Audrey and Michael
Audrey Rochester Inc. incorporated in September 2001 and started selling to
the public in 2002. We started with only one product: Audrey's Pleasure Cookies
in three different flavors. Our first client, Whole Foods Market, loved our
products so much that they put them in all their stores in the Northeast.
In September 2002 we expanded our business with new products and moved into
a new facility in SoHo, NYC.
A
little bit of history
When Audrey met Michael, she told him she was a raw food enthusiast. Like
so many others, he was skeptical. How could just eating raw foods be something
that people could enjoy over a period of time? What was the point? But Audrey
wanted to convince Michael, so she invited him and some other friends for
a raw vegan dinner.
Michael had to admit to Audrey that she has a great talent for preparing raw
food and coming up with recipes. All the things she created that night were
delicious, especially her Almond Raisin Cookies. After eating one, Michael
suggested to Audrey that they create a business, using her talents. She was
delighted by the idea, but had no business or marketing experience, so it
just remained an idea for a while.
Weeks
after the first dinner, Audrey and Michael sat in the food area at Macy's
and talked about potentially partnering in the raw cookie business. They decided
to move ahead with it ... the rest is history as they say.
Audrey's Pleasure Foods started selling at the begining of 2002, and just
recently celebrated their first year in business. A lot happened in that first
year ... they moved into a facility in SoHo and developed several new products.
Unfortunately they are still notoriously understaffed and overworked (and
still doing it part time), but nobody said it was going to be a 'Pleasure
Cookie'.
