Patty Foley
My name is Patty Foley. I grew up in Portland
Maine. I moved to Sarasota, Fla. 9 years ago. I started the raw food diet
in 1988. I visited a beautiful retreat in Puerto Rico operated by Ann Wigmore,
the pioneeer of the Raw Food Movement and Wheatgrass. After spending two weeks
of dining on live soups, salads, and wheatgrass juice and feeling the abundant
energy from living foods, I knew that this was the lifestyle I wanted to pursue.
I read a lot of books and learned as much as I could in the years from 1988
to 2000, only to find myself very confused. I never felt really secure in
what I was doing, and was ready to give up on it all. Every time I read that
something was beneficial for my health, the next book would say that it was
unhealthy to consume for one reason or another. There is so much conflict,
it seems like everything you do you find out later you should not be doing.
So many different opinions on what is the best way to eat. I can thank my
wonderful mother for the strong, positive energy I have been blessed with.
I love her dearly, for it is the best gift out of many tools that I have recieved
from her and my father which give me the strength to deal with all life's
obstacles in a positive way. That positive strength kept me on the raw food
path until July of 2000 when I spent 9 weeks at the Hippocrates Health Institute.
This is where I found my answers and security in what I was doing. I left
there with so much confidance. Their program made the most sense and set me
free to make my own choice on what is best for me.
I witnessed numerous people visiting the institute arriving drained of life
and leaving three weeks later very vibrant. It made me realize that the best
teachers are teachers with the most experience in working with people and
high success rate with reversing disease and bringing back vibrant health.
Experience is what I look for in a teacher more that what comes from a book.
Everyone can write information, but to really get the knowledge you want is
through experiance.
Brian Clement is the director of Hippocrates Health Institute. and is always
up on the latest information. If you asked me to describe my experience at
Hippocrates Health Instutite, I would say that I just visited the Land of
OZ and Brian being the Wizard. Like the Tin Man looking for a brain, we go
looking for perfect health when all along we have the ability. Brian will
not take any credit for the regained health you acheive. He only teaches us
the capability we all have to reverse sickness and disease. There are many
good books and excellent teachers today. Take what you need from them, and
customize your very own road to optimal health. It is an incredable journey
with each day bringing you a new gift of health to look foward to. Your own
body is your best teacher. It will give you all the answers you need to know
what is right for you. If you are doing the wrong thing, your body will let
you know. So go back to Kansas and use the potential you already have to create
optimal health for you. I took the Hippocrates lifestyle and fit it to my
needs.
Their program has worked the best for me. I feel confident that I am meeting
all my nutritional needs with wheatgrass juice, sprout juice and blended soups,
along with my raw diet. I keep my diet really clean. That is the best advice
I can give to you. If you are considering changing to the raw food lifestyle
or for that matter any healthy diet, your first priority to yourself should
be to choose foods that are organic or wild. It won't help you or the enviorment
trying to become healthy on foods grown with pesticides and chemicals. Our
environment is the basis for all of our nutritional needs. And when you buy
non organic, you may as well take the poisions and dump them in the water,
air and land - it is no different. We have to control as much in our life
as we can, because there is so much that affects our health everyday that
we can't control. We can control what food goes into our body. Most people
find this lifestyle to be a burden and too much work. Not Me! I can't think
of one thing I have had to give up in order to make time to juice or prepare
live food meals. I still have plenty of time to do all the things I love to
do. It is only the thoughts that make this lifestyle a burden to people, not
the work. I have learned to incorporate it into my day as a natural part of
life.
My next and I feel most important step towards the health I have achieved
was meeting my very good friend Edward, known to everyone in Sarasota as The
Bev Water Man. He taught me all about water. Like food, water also should
be alive and support life. When you eat dead food you end up malnourished.
Drinking dead water you will never be truly hydrated. When I drink Edward's
live water, I feel my body being polished, and shining clean on the inside,
like never before. Today Edward is the only one I will trust with my water
as I have been misled with many different types of water. And like I said
earlier, I don't need any expert opinons, my body tells me his water is right.
I have experienced the benefits within a matter of days, with my skin becoming
softer and more hydrated. I feel very fortunate to have found a friend in
Edward, who has such a passion for water.
An example of how much our body needs water: take a piece of fruit that has
been picked from a tree and no longer is fed water, it slowly shrivels up
and dies from dehydration. Water is a very important part of my diet. As part
of a cleansing for our body, we lose a lot of water every day. That needs
to be replaced in order for our bodies to continue feeding our cells and cleaning
out toxins. I believe water from organic fruits and vegetables is probably
one of the safest waters you can get, but it is not enough to replace the
water we need. The water in the fruit is there to provide that fruit with
life. Our body is many times larger and needs much more water to keep itself
alive.
It isn't necessary to be sick to follow this lifestyle. I was always happy
and healthy. I wanted to stay that way. How many times I heard as a child
that sickness and disease comes with old age. That was no future to look forward
to, and I wanted to stay a child forever. Time goes by and we do age only
I found myself not to age with disease, but with my love for living and enjoying
life to get stronger and stronger. I no longer fear aging. I know giving my
body the life force it needs through a Raw Food Diet that I will stay young
forever.
The benefits that I have gotten out of the years of being on a Raw Food Diet
are being in touch with my own instincts, improved eyesight, a clear mind,
feeling love for myself and everything around me, much more self confidence
than I have ever had before, and being able to find pleasure in simplicity.
I have developed so much respect for the earth and how much we depend on the
environment around us for our health that it breaks my heart to see it destroyed
only to provide people with money and an artificial life.
RAW FOODS HAS BROUGHT SO MUCH JOY TO MY LIFE AND FILLED MY DAYS WITH HAPPINESS.
Everyone deserves to live this life. We are all denied the feelings of optimal
health that we deserve. We are constantly fighting the toxins and chemicals
that are bombarding our environment everyday. I know I could even feel better
if my body did not have to deal with this on a regular basis. I do everything
I can to protect the health I have achieved. The rewards definately outweigh
the effort.
No matter what abuse you do to your body, the body always works to give you
the best. Work with your body instead of against it and you too will have
the pleasures you recieve from the extra life added to your days.
Love to all,
Patty Foley
