I made the vegetarian
choice as a young child once the connection between my animal friends and what
was being served to me on my plate was made. I suffered from the usual array
of childhood disorders and quickly came to the conclusion that being ill was
not a whole lot of fun, so became interested in how to create my own health
at a surprisingly young age. After searching down all the usual avenues (healthfood
stores, supplement pushers, 'natural' therapies of a disturbing assortment,
etc.) I realised that something was missing - the jigsaw just did not make sense
or come together. Despite all my efforts to achieve superior health, it was
failing. By the age of 16 I began to suffer from what was to become a profound
and extensive range of eating disorders (from anorexia to bulimia/compulsive
eating and back). This gathered momentum until it nearly resulted in my demise
at the age of 23. My life was literally saved by the discovery of Natural Hygiene
and I've not looked back since. Now I am totally at peace with myself and with
my food. My own healing process led to the birth of my career. I researched,
studied and pursued Natural Hygiene with a focus and intensity that absorbed
my every waking moment.
I undertook a course of learning with the American Health Science Institute
in 1983 and was eventually awarded a Professorship in Applied Nutrition. I have
also studied under the guidance of Dr Keki Sidhwa and Dr Doug Graham spending
much time in their homes observing their work. My home library is my hobby and
boasts an awesome collection of works. I have read extensively of all the classic
(and some not so classic) Natural Hygienic Texts.
In 1985 I became involved with the fitness industry, by qualifying as a fitness
instructor and then going on to become Senior National Course Director and Assessor
of Exercise Teacher Training in the UK. My extensive education and training
in fitness has primarily come from Loughborough University and the Training
and Development Department of London Central YMCA, for whom I worked for 10
years. I was a co-creator of the first post graduate course for specialising
in teaching fitness to older adults, and continue to regularly work in this
field. My path has also led me to study many metaphysical teachings including
'A Course in Miracles', Science of Mind and NLP . These areas of study, coupled
with my understanding of physiology, have since led me to research the subject
of PNI (how thoughts and emotions effect physical health).
In 1992 I obtained my Adult Education Teachers' certificate from City and Guilds
of London Institute. In 1994, after a year of study and practice, I obtained
my certificate in counselling skills from Chichester College. I undertook both
of these qualifications in order to better serve my clients. I have been delighted
to receive an award by the English Speaking Board in recognition of my skills
as a public speaker.
The spiritual aspect of my life is constantly growing and is the bedrock of
all that I am and all that I strive to be. I regularly practice and teach meditation
and visualisation. Recently I have pursued the movement discipline of Yoga and
found it highly valuable for both myself and for the people with whom I work.
My passions include teaching Natural Hygiene, activating the inactive (inspiring
the sedentary to develop the exercise habit), and, above all, helping others
to heal themselves from disordered eating.
